JOHN LOBB'S PERSONAL STYLE

Oct 2013

Having made the most beautiful men’s shoes in England for more than 150 years, John Lobb now takes a further step into the world of stylish men’s accessories. Following on from the small leather goods, belts and socks John Lobb have created another essential collection of accessories – gloves and ties – with the same fanatical eye for detail its customers have come to expect.

"NOT SURPRISINGLY, FOR A COMPANY USED TO WORKING
WITH THE FINEST LEATHERS, GLOVES ARE AN OBVIOUS EXTENSION
OF THE JOHN LOBB EXPERIENCE."

There are two pairs in the collection – an inner and an outer.

THE OUTER GLOVE | comes in two designs, a plain one and another featuring a buckle – sharp-eyed aficionados may spot that the buckle is the same as the one used on some of its iconic monk-shoes – itself inspired by a belt buckle. The leather for both designs is cut in one piece and, like a John Lobb shoe, joined together using a piqué stitch creating a strong and long-lasting seam. Meanwhile the lack of side seams means the glove has the most elegant of silhouettes. Both designs come in either black or dark brown.

THE INNER GLOVE | comes in four colours and is designed to be worn either inside the outer pair – you might almost think of it as a sock for your hands – or by itself. It is made from 70% cashmere and 30% silk. The inner glove can be bought separately so you can choose whichever combination of inner and outer you wish.

As the gloves take their inspiration from the shoes, so follow the ties. They are offered in two designs, Signature and Twinstitch. Both ties will come in a range of eight colours, each one inspired by the rich shades of leather used to create the John Lobb shoe. In a further link to the bootmaking tradition each tie’s loop label – or griffe – is made from the softest shoe leather. The angle of the point at the bottom of the new range of John Lobb ties is 120 degrees rather than the more usual 90 degrees, matching the LaScala buckle.

"IT'S A SMALL DIFFERENCE BUT ADDS TO THE ELEGANCE
AND ONE THAT WILL DISCREETLY COME TO IDENTIFY LOVERS
OF JOHN LOBB THE WORLD OVER."

THE SIGNATURE TIE’S | herringbone weave perfectly encapsulates John Lobb’s unique marriage of English heritage and French style: the heavy silk itself is woven in Suffolk, home to some of the best weavers in the world, while the tie is made up in France.

THE TWINSTITCH TIE | is also woven in England and is all about attention to detail, boasting a richly refined pattern that echoes the stitching found on a John Lobb shoe.

The golden thread that binds all the creations together is the yellow yarn, in the Bootmaker’s signature colour; be it a stitch on a tie, or a stripe on a glove. The guiding principles behind the new collection are simple: to complement John Lobb shoes with subtlety, elegance and an unswerving attention to detail that will enable John Lobb to express his distinctive yet discreet personal style.
